Leonard the pig wanted more than anything to roll around in the mud. But he wasn't just any old pig. He was a pampered pig, a purple pig, and a peanut-butter-loving pig. His parents, Dave (who was 8) and Trudy (who was 9), were unusually responsible pet owners - for their age. Leonard didn't know how he would ever step foot outside, let alone get to roll around in the mud. Maybe he should try...

  2. But Leonard didn't want to be clean! He was tired of being primped and pampered. He wanted to see what life was like for normal pigs. So he waited until Dave and Trudy were watching Nikelodeon and he snuck out the laundry room window...

  3. for a long snout-scrunching moment Leonard's fanciful dream of dirtier pastures was almost in slops when his back left trotter became jambed between window and frame as he hefted his portly bod out into freedom...

  4. ...Aah! The air was smelled clean. Fresh like home-made compost soil. The clean scent of dirt in the air. Leonard squirmed and wriggled. He paused and grunted. He sniffed the air again and squirmed and wriggled some more. The dirt called his name. And if he didn't know any better, he smelled a fine rain coming on soon. Even a pig living inside knew that. Soon he trotted right out of that window jamb, but...

  1. his mother caught him sneaking out to play in the mud. His plan was thwarted once again. However the oncoming rain smelled so delicious he knew he didn't have to wait for long before everything turned to mud and even the most sparkling white shirt would soon have dirt stains on it. 3

  2. It would be a while before his mother stopped watching him to make sure he didn't go outside again. To make her less suspicious he pretended to be annoyed of the mud outside. Finally when she stopped watching, he attempted to go outside again. He... 1

  3. had learned from his previous mistakes and this time waited until Trudy and Dave were busy bickering about whose turn it was to wash the dishes. He made it through the window without any trouble this time and was enjoying the feel of springy grass against his piggy feet. Suddenly he had the feeling that he was not alone...

  7. The wolf smiled and jumped clean over the pig's heads in the mud with them! He was a friendly wolf who had a laughing growl and a love for good old mud wrestling. The pigs started to relax and play when all of a sudden.....

  11. "This pig would sure make a good dinner. If I can just get him to stop wiggling, maybe I could have a nice dinner!" But the pig would have none of it! The mud had actually given him an advantage over the wolf."

I would love the Mad lib book, by the way.

  12. Leonard, who was no longer purple, stood up on his hind flanks dripping with mud. "Wolfie! My friends and I all thought you were nice!" Leonard slipped out from the wolf's grasp yet again. He ran toward the house. His piggie friends followed. Trudy and Dave opened the front door just in time for Leonard to run them over and get back in the house. "I've had enough rolling around in the mud for one day." Leonard sat in the middle of the kitchen floor huffing and puffing.

Trudy's jaw dropped. Dave flopped into a chair. They both stared at Leonard and all his friends. So much for being responsible pet owners. Trudy wanted to clean Leonard up, but Dave wanted to...

  14. ...just maybe..."Hey, Trudy! Let's make some pudding!"

So the pigs all helped. Leonard wiped the mud from his pampered purple skin. After they made a bigger mess in the kitchen and cleaned up, Leonard plopped a big spoonful of chocolate pudding into a large bowl. Then he opened the front door.

"Hey, wolfie! We know you're hungry, so we made you some mud-colored pudding!"

Wolfie sauntered up to the porch, grinning. "Thanks."

And the two new friends planned to mud wrestle once a month. Leonard even invited Trudy and Dave! But the rest of the time, Leonard enjoyed being pampered in the house with TV and treats and long bubble baths.
